Who Is God to Me?

Lately, I’ve been quite busy; many of my plans have been disrupted and I’ve gone through some difficulties. Nevertheless, I decided to trust God, to keep the peace and not to worry. Some have wondered why and my answer is simple: God means a lot to me! So today I would like to present to you, through biblical verses and from my own experiences, what are the attributes of God and what He is to me.

It is important to note that it is through Jesus that we can have a good relationship with God. Everything I tell you now is based on my personal experiences and my interpretation of the Bible. Therefore, everything depends on my faith in Jesus and His sacrifice on the Cross for me. A personal reading, or even a study, can also help you to discover who God proposes to be for you. Then we will look at what the Bible reveals about our relationship with the Father (God), the Son (Jesus) and the Holy Spirit.

I do not know if the order I have chosen is correct, or even if there is a suitable one, but the descriptions of His attributes is set in relation to both my heart and also from a certain logic, if that is possible.

First of all, He is my King, as Malachi says in chapter 1, verse 14. Nowadays, it is increasingly rare to bring importance to such a title. But for me, it means so much... It gives Him all the power that He has over my life. I submit to Him, and it is such an honor! Indeed, what could be more beautiful than serving a loving and benevolent God? God is the King of my heart, and his Kingdom is to come!

He is my joy, my peace and my hope. In the most difficult moments, He fills me with peace because I know that I can trust Him and rely on Him in all circumstances. There is a French song that says, “Christ is my joy”, for example. But what comforts me most is knowing that Jesus gave me His peace: “I leave you peace, I give you my peace. I do not give you as the world gives. Let your heart not ruble, nor be alarmed” (John 14:27).

He is my Father. This may be subject to many questions, but let me explain. Both my parents love me and I have absolutely no doubt about it, but in giving my heart to Jesus, the Bible says that I have become a coheir of Christ – the Son of God! – in Romans 8:17, that I have become a child of God (1 John 3:1) and that I am no longer spiritually orphaned (John 14:18). And between you and me, I can’t imagine rejecting such a promise! Moreover, it was He who created me: “However, O LORD, you are our father, we are the clay, and you have formed us, we are all the work of your hands” (Isaiah 64:8).

He is love! As you may know, I started this site by telling you that God loves you. But the reality is greater than that. It is not limited to the fact that you are loved. It is really a matter of knowing that the nature of God is love. Thus John in his first epistle explains that “He who does not love has not known God, for God is love” (1 John 4:8).

The Holy Spirit is the Comforter! The Father sent him to us after Jesus' departure for heaven, to be with us every day until the end of the world (John 14:26; Matthew 28:20). In times of struggle, doubt, and fatigue, I know that the Holy Spirit in me comforts me and gives me peace.

I mean, He is my best friend and confidant. I cannot define his friendship and my relationship of confidence with Him as attributes, but as aspects of my relationship with Him. The Bible says that Jesus calls us his friends (John 15:15). As I said earlier, through the sacrifice of Jesus, I have access to God, and He allows me to speak to Him, regardless of circumstances, in joy, sadness, hardship, and I know that He will listen to me, will look after me and take care of me.

The list is not exhaustive, far from it, it seems to me that it would take me several weeks to tell you who He is. But I’ll leave it at that for today. By the way, all these ways of conceiving God can allow you to approach him and spend moments in His presence, especially in prayer in a different way.

I propose something a little new this week: in the comments section, or by email, I invite you to say who God is for you, what are the attributes that you had not thought of in your relationship with God? Finally, as I told you to begin with, to have the wonderful opportunity to know God in this way, we need to go through Jesus.

So if you wish it and you haven’t done it yet, I invite you to seek it out and ask Him to reveal Himself to you, and you will see what He has in store for you ☺️

Wishing you a wonderful and blessed week,
May the Lord reveal who He is to you
Do ☺️
