Walking With God
The world has an interesting expression: life is a journey. Everyone has a variation on it and it is interesting to see everyone with their own take on the saying - my favorite variations tend to have the verb “walking”. Why? Because walking is something that can have so many dimensions, from the way you conduct yourself, to the way you speak and anything else across the board of life. The Bible talks a lot about walking, and as a teen or young adult today, this specific verse holds a large amount of importance: “Do two walk together, unless they have agreed to meet?” (Amos 3:3)
In this journey of life, we will all meet people that will alter our worldviews, make us laugh and make us cry. We agree to walk with those people because we get the chance to know them through conversation.
Have you agreed to walk with GOD?
Before you get to answer that question, let’s reexamine our GOD. The Bible says a lot about Him. He is the Alpha and Omega (Revelation 1:8; Revelation 22:13), the I Am (John 8:58), the Just Judge (2 Timothy 2:8) just to name a few. He is filled with love, grace and mercy for us, as he is both The Mighty GOD and a Wonderful Counselor (Isaiah 9:6). There are no words big enough, grand enough, to explain how great and wonderful He has been, is and will continue to be forevoremore. But to know all of these things from scripture is good, but to be able to walk with Him as the book of Amos says, you must have a relationship with Him.
Being in communion with our Lord and Savior means you must consecrate time to continue your relationship with Him. Time set apart for prayer, worship and adoration. He will reveal Himself to you, as He did Moses in the story of the burning bush (Exodus 3: 2 - 22) and Solomon (1 Kings 3: 5 - 15). From that moment on, your love for Him will grow exponentially and what used to be five minutes of prayer everyday, will grow, as Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere (Psalms 84: 10). That’s how you start walking with the Lord.
In a worldly sense, things will change when you start to walk with GOD. You will most likely lose friends that don’t understand why it’s important for you to spend time with GOD on a friday night instead of partying. They won’t get why Bible Study comes before work. You may receive some hate. I know, because it’s the testimony of any true follower of Christ. It’s a reality that was prophesied back in John 15: 18 - 19, when Yeshua says: “If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you”. But remember that in all circumstances, His grace is sufficient for you (2 Corinthians 9:12), meaning that even if you lose friends, you will survive and thrive, as GOD can provide for you like He did Job and even more.
Have you agreed to walk with GOD?
I can’t tell you where you stand with GOD as I’ve never been you, but in the journey of life, I’ve accepted to walk with GOD everyday. I haven’t regretted it and I never will. I won’t sit on a soapbox and claim that it is easy all the time because that would be a lie. I try to walk in sanctification, being obedient to the Father (Phil 2: 7 - 9), living by being fully dependant on Him (John 5: 19, 30) all while trying to be the best person I can be by being there and helping others (Acts 10: 38), it’s hard. But I stand with a smile on my face, knowing that the enemy wants to make it hard for all of GOD’s children when they are on His path. So fear not if the enemy attacks you, bow your head and pray so that the Lord will save you, because He saves those who walk with Him.
May GOD bless you abundantly,
Eli
