Life After Death

“Biggie, Biggie, Biggie, can't you see?

Sometimes your words just hypnotize me”

- The Notorious Big (Hypnotize)

What do The Notorious B.I.G (Biggie), Tupac, and Eminem have in common? Short answer is that they are all considered to be the GOAT’s of the Rap Community, however, the more detailed answer is that these men; fall under my top  three rappers of all time (with Pac and Eminem taking the number one spot and Biggie taking the second spot). They all speak their truths, use life or emotions to create their songs, have amazing lyricism, and are timeless. This month’s album is Life After Death (2014 Remastered Edition) by The Notorious B.I.G!

I would also like to recommend watching Biggie: I Got a Story to Tell (on Netflix) which was a beautifully shot documentary which gave audiences a small view of Biggie as an individual and not just the legend that his music had created. The movie mortalized him and showcased his essence. Biggie seemed to be a fun-loving person who loved what he did with his music and wanted to be sure that what he did would last even after he was gone.

Life After Death was created by The Notorious B.I.G aka Christopher Wallace. Christopher  Wallace was born on May 21st, 1972 and died March 9th, 1997 at the age of 24 due to a Drive-by shooting. The album comprises of 24 songs filled with pure energy, amazing beats, and wonderful collaborations. The songs either make you feel like dancing or allow you to stop.

The cover over the album shows Biggie standing beside the hearse with the title printed on the body of the car above the license plate.

I believe the album was appropriately named as it is still listened to now and again with some fans coming back to it even though Biggie is no longer with us. Coincidentally the album came out 2 weeks after his death which led to the album becoming the notorious remains of his short lived life.

From the album my favorite songs are:

  • Notorious B.I.G. Interlude (because it's a fun intro),

  • Hypnotize

  • Mo Money Mo Problems

  • What’s Beef?

I also like the song Sky is the Limit because it is motivational, just look at the lyrics below:

Sky is the limit and you know that you keep on

Just keep on pressin' on

Sky is the limit and you know that you can have

What you want, be what you want

Sky is the limit and you know that you keep on

Just keep on pressin' on

Sky is the limit and you know that you can have

What you want, be what you want, have what you want, be what you want

  • Sky is the Limit

Overall I would rate the album a 10/10.
