2022: A Year to Break New Ground
Happy New Year everybody! Hope y’all have been having a great start to 2022 and (hopefully) sticking to your new year's resolution(s). This is a year that has so much in store for all of us at Yonge Entertainment and where we will take our content to the next level and is one of the many reasons why we are looking forward to this year.
But before we do that, our condolences and prayers go out to the family and friends of DMX (Earl Simmons), Young Dolph (Adolph Thornton Jr.), Biz Markie (Marcel Theo Hall), Black Rob (Robert Ross), Drakeo The Ruler (Darrell Wayne Caldwell), and many others who sadly passed on.
2021 was in many ways a lot better than 2020, but there were still a lot of challenges that we had to overcome and many lessons that needed to be learned. But in saying all of this, 2021 was a lot of fun and full of memories. But without further ado, here are my predictions for what is to come in 2022.
Please do keep in mind that these predictions are not in order of importance and I will strictly be focusing on the positive side of things for obvious reasons! Positive vibes are the energy we all need in 2022! With this disclaimer out of the way, let’s get into it!
The Superbowl LVI Halftime Show starring the likes of Dr. Dre, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg, and Kendrick Lamar will shatter records and will become the new staple for halftime shows moving forwards.
Kendrick Lamar will finally release a studio album this year, his first solo project since the release of DAMN. back in 2017. After numerous teases and features in songs with various artists last year, I feel that this is the year that we will get some new music from Kung Fu Kenny himself.
J Cole will win the grammy award for “Best Rap Album” for his 2021 project The Off Season at the upcoming Grammy Awards show. While we at Yonge Entertainment still throw our middle fingers in the air screaming,”FUCK THE GRAMMYS” - #FuckTheGrammys by the way - I do recognize that this is an award that’s long overdue for the multi-platinum selling artist.
This year will mark the start of the decline for Covid-19 and its variants. With the recent Omicron variant being the first dominant strain of the virus having less-lethal symptoms than its predecessors, this is a good sign for all of us who are still being hampered by it.
This year will continue to see rap artists taking a dive into different genres and continuing this trend of genre-bending and incorporating different styles from said genres into their projects, creating entirely new sub-genre of hip hop.
2022 will see new music being put out from those who we have lost back in 2021. With deceased artists such as Juice WRLD and Pop Smoke continuing to have music being pushed out by their labels, I wouldn’t be surprised if we got the same sort of treatment from the likes of those who have passed on back in 2021.
We will get a new project from each member of the ‘Holy Trinity’ and this generation of rap this year: Drake, J Cole, and Kendrick Lamar. What a time to be alive!
With that, I finish off this brief list. I would love to hear back from y’all so feel free to comment down below! Have an extremely fun-filled and blessed 2022 everyone! Till next time, peace!
