God Only Knows
Actually, I would like to call this article "Faith," but if you remember correctly, that is the title of the last article.
Maybe I should write a whole series about it. It will all depend on the inspiration I have for next time.
During the summer, my youth pastor told me about a movie that had just been released on Netflix. Quite frankly, the story is pretty mundane; the Christian version of High School Musical, or almost. But the music spoke to me a lot.
I watched this movie during this difficult time that I have mentioned many times before. Spoiler alert. Basically, a teenager gets arrested by the police, he should go to juvenile detention, but at the last moment, a mother and her son suggest that he go to a Christian camp. In this camp, the young man meets a girl whom he chooses to impress. I won't tell you the ending, just in case you want to watch it.
The song that impacted me the most was “Awesome God”, in combination with God Only Knows. The young girl starts singing “Awesome God”, and the young man continues on “God Only Knows”, as they both have a hard time with life.
This is where I was touched. Usually, when we talk about placing our faith in God, we focus on the fact that God is a mighty God. We celebrate Him, glorify Him, exalt His magnificence, whatever makes us a perfect Christian.
But, honestly, who isn't having a hard time? Who never goes through hardship? If Jesus went through hard times, who are we to not go through any of them? This song says it all, "God only knows what you've been through, God only knows what others are saying about you, God only knows how much it affects you." The song continues, but the message is there.
To have faith in God is to know that He alone knows everything you go through in its entirety. To have faith in God is to believe that He can relieve or even take the weight off your shoulders. However, that’s not where it ends. To have faith in God is to believe that He is powerful through your trials, it is to believe that He "reigns from His holy place with wisdom and love". It is believing that God is good at all times. And may He never cease to watch over you.
Above all, to have faith in God is to allow these two attitudes to coexist. You can believe that God is powerful as you go through great suffering. If Jesus did it, you can do it too. You have the right to feel discouraged if your situation seems impossible to you, but above all, you have the right to tell God that you are tired, even if you recognize His greatness and His goodness.
When it comes to faith in God, there is no real manual. You just have to believe and do the works that glorify Him. The only guide I can give you is the Word of God. Reading the Bible, conversations with other believers and servants of God, times of inspired prayer, times of praise… These are tools that will allow you to develop your personal guide for your relationship with God.
So now? Feel free! The only condition is to place your faith in God, as I explained last time.
What are you feeling ? What is your difficulty at this moment? I invite you to exploit this “contradiction” and present it to God now.
May the Lord bless you abundantly,
Do
