The Eminem Show vs. Kamikaze

"Throughout my career, I fed off the fuel of people not being able to understand me."

-Eminem

The sign of a good artist is someone who creates music that is relatable, emotive and relevant such as Tupac, Eminem, and Biggie. This month instead of doing a Classic Album Review, I will be choosing a classical artist (in this case as seen through the quote above, Eminem) and comparing two of his albums, The Eminem Show and Kamikaze.  Does Eminem still count as  a good artist? Will there be a clear winner?

The first chosen album was The Eminem Show which was produced in 2002. This album has songs with catchy beats and excellent wordplay. Many of the songs were emotive and could bring out reactions in you that either had you wanting to dance or sing along.  I think that his best songs on the album were:

  1. Cleanin’ Out My Closet

  2. ‘Till I Collapse

  3. Hallie’s Song

  4. My Dad’s Gone Crazy

Overall I would rate this album a 6.5/10, it was not super amazing but it also was not terrible.

Sixteen years later Kamikaze was released. Kamikaze was the tenth studio album. The album, as subdued as it was, still had catchy beats, cool collaborations, and songs you want to play over and over again. Songs that I would recommend giving a listen to on this album are; ‘’Good Guy’’ (ft. Jessie Reyez), ‘’Nice Guy’’ which also features Jessie Reyez, Venom and Normal. Overall I would rate this an 8.5/10.

In conclusion, yes, Eminem still counts as a good artist. He has a mix of good albums and/songs and bad albums and/songs though overall his songs are worth the listen.

I personally think that the clear winner is Kamikaze, as it had me repeating songs and then replaying the whole album.

Have you ever listened to Kamikaze or The Eminem Show? What are your favorite songs on the albums? Does this review make you want to listen to it, or not?
