Take Care by Drake

“I know you've been hurt by someone else / I can tell by the way you carry yourself / If you let me, here's what I'll do / I'll take care of you (I'll take, I'll take) / I've loved and I've lost”

- Take Care, by Drake ft. Rihanna

One of the things that draws someone to a certain type of music or artist is the relatability of the lyrics or emotion that is portrayed.  Aubrey Drake Graham is one of those artists who people are drawn to because of the relatability of his music, which is also very versatile. Drake may not be one of my favorite artists but I will not dispute that he is good and versatile in his music which draws in many different types of people in many different ways which is a sign of an amazing artist.

This month  we will review Take Care. Take Care is his second studio album that was released on November 15th, 2011. During an interview Drake revealed that his album is so named because he gets to take his time this go-round rather than rush.  His 19 song album is a mix of slow sensual songs to fast beat danceable songs that are mixed together perfectly.

Drake does really well in choosing his beats, his collaborators and lyrics to create something that in my opinion is a masterpiece and some of his best work. If there was any album to convince me that Drake is an artist to listen to then this would be the one that does it. In this you are given a taste of his soulful voice and  a brief look into his emotions  in regards to his relationships to people and fame, his lyrics are honest and open such as in Headlines

I might be too strung out on compliments

Overdosed on confidence

Started not to give a f- and stopped fearing the consequence

Drinkin' every night because we drink to my accomplishments

Faded way too long I'm floating in and out of consciousness

And they sayin' I'm back, I'd agree with that

I just take my time with all this s-, I still believe in that

I had someone tell me I fell off, ouh I needed that

And they wanna see me pick back up, well where'd I leave it at

I know I exaggerated things, now I got it like that

The album cover is bold and contrasting in colors that are rich along with Drake, sitting at the table looking very deep in thought. I guess it’s an element that helps to understand where Drake is in terms of the production of this entire project. He is introspective, struggling with the concepts of life, love and fame. This element - this feeling - can be found in these lyrics:

I've asked about you and they told me things

But my mind didn't change and I still feel the same

What's a life with no fun? Please, don't be so ashamed

I've had mine, you've had yours, we both know, we know

They won't get you like I will, my only wish is I die real

'Cause that truth hurts and those lies heal

Overall the album is 7/10. I don’t mind it, but I also don’t think that it is perfect. It has its flaws and might be a little too long for my liking, but that’s just my opinion.
