Saweetie & Quavo: Hip-Hop Love Becomes Toxic

image (1).jpg

You’d think that in the celebrity world that there would not be petty high school maturity level relationship drama, but you would be oh so wrong. It’s fun to sit sometimes and analyze the absolute poop shows that are some of these celeb’s relationships and the amount of petty that a celebrity like Quavo who has seen more money and success than I could ever wish to see in my lifetime at the tender age of 30. This article will be discussing domestic abuse, and some darker aspects of relationships, and how Hollywood and the environment of hip hop more exacerbate such issues as domestic abuse and toxic relationships than lends a helping hand in reconciling these issues. Now, ladies and gentlemen get your snorkels on, and let’s dive into some piping hot tea.

Saweetie and Quavo, oh where to start? Where to start? Let’s start at the very beginning, a very good place to start. Now in my own humble (and I mean humble) opinion, we don’t necessarily need to start at the beginning to be able to see that this was a toxic relationship through and through BUT I know that some of y’all live for the tea, and who am I to deny you that sweet sweet tea, so let’s get into the nitty-gritty (you’re welcome). I do warn you however, it’s going to be brief since we still got THE TEA to dive into. I now present Quavo and Saweetie with a brief history: 2018 Saweetie appears in Quavo’s ‘Workin Me’ music video as his love interest. In March 2019 they become official on social media. A year later they call it quits.

I told y’all I’d keep the history lesson brief, so now those snorkels, snuggly secure them on your face, and let’s deep dive into where this relationship went south. "I'm single. I've endured too much betrayal and hurt behind the scenes for a false narrative to be circulating that degrades my character.” Saweetie tweeted this after the pair split, and I agree with her wholeheartedly. She saw that this relationship was beyond repair and she wants to keep her name clean. The couple lasted all of 2 years.

The pair would exchange lavish gifts, but Saweetie would see right through the lavish gifts given to her by Quavo, by publicly stating that Quavo was cheating and being dishonest on multiple occasions. This ultimately led to the elevator incident that occurred between the pair that has since gone viral. In the video, you can see Quavo and Saweetie engaged in a physical altercation which led to the female rap star on the ground crying while Quavo was seen holding a package, which was apparently the motive behind this altercation. This goes back to the statement that Saweetie made about gifts and how that does not erase the multiple infidelities endured by Saweetie at the hands of Quavo.

Saweetie did have this to say regarding the now infamous elevator incident, “This unfortunate incident happened a year ago, while we have reconciled since then and moved past this particular disagreement, there were simply too many other hurdles to overcome in our relationship and we have both since moved on” according to an interview she did with PEOPLE Magazine.

While the two seem to have indeed moved on from one another there still appears to be fallout from their breakup. The rap star recently released her Pretty Summer Playlist: Season 1 EP where she goes all-in on Quavo in one of her songs titled “See Saw”. One of the lines she raps goes as follows, “How you fumble with the baddest bitch, are you a dumb n—? / You got nerve selling me all these threats when you wrong...That's a big trigger / How you figure, ain't the woman that you thought.” Shots fired! It seems that Saweetie is not over the ish that Quavo has put her through, and I agree. I am very much taking sides here, I’m not ashamed in the least bit. All the power to Saweetie calling out Quavo and his antics. A woman scorned is not someone you want to mess with.

In defense to all of the physical abuse allegations revolving around Quavo, a member of the Migos had this to say to PEOPLE Magazine, “We had an unfortunate situation almost a year ago that we both learned and moved on from...I haven't physically abused Saweetie and have real gratitude for what we did share overall.” In regards to accusations of domestic abuse, we can’t necessarily call it domestic abuse as much as we can call it a relationship with the typical ‘Hollywood Start’ that’s gone toxic as one can expect most times. Luckily both members of this relationship that was not meant to behave learned that it does not matter if you’re in Hollywood or any wood for that matter that relationship can go toxic real fast.
