Lil Pump’s “Gucci Gang”

Allow me to begin with spouting a controversial fact: mumble rap isn't all that bad. In fact, there are some rappers that are above the cut. They can qualify themselves as being amazing. This would be guys such as Trippie Redd, Lil Yachty and the late-great Lil Peep's and Juice WRLD. Frankly, it could be worse than what it is. I believe that a lot of other rappers are complaining, just as Ice-T was with Soulja Boy back in the day and every other generational spat. It's just how Hip-Hop works.

But Lil Pump's "Gucci Gang" is bad. Like, really bad.

I won't complain too much about the lack of lyricism, because that's tired and overdone. Yet, I feel compelled to. I won't dive into the rhyme schemes and word play because there aren't any. The absolute gold is the following lines:

Me and my grandma take meds, ooh

None of this shit be new to me

Fucking my teacher, call it tutory

Bought some red bottoms, cost hella Gs

All of that was egregious. It made no sense and didn't flow in terms of story or sound. I don't know what the producer was thinking allowing him to rap this on the track. If that was my producer, I would ask them questions. What kills me about it is the fact that there were multiple writers on this: why? Most people could find better off the dome, while high, upside down and forced to speak something that isn't the primary language.

I'm thinking about how the beat is just bad. It doesn't sound appealing. It makes the approximate two minute song sound a lot longer. The worst part is that there is proof that there are songs that Pump has made where he sounds so much better. I think that the best example of that is the critically lambasted, "I Love It". Yes, the track that was so bad that Kanye West said that "the devil was happy [the day I made that track]". At least Pump sounds half decent on the track.

Gucci Gang is a hot mess, of unimaginable proportions. Don't listen to it if you haven't. It's better for your ears.
